Setting the Stage Southeast 2024: Kymirah

On September 27, 2024, Valley Youth House hosted its 2nd Annual Southeast Setting the Stage event in Philadelphia, raising $254,550 to support youth across the Greater Philadelphia region. The evening brought together community leaders, dedicated supporters, and inspiring stories, highlighting the essential work of Valley Youth House in empowering young individuals facing challenges such as homelessness.

Among the many impactful moments of the night, one stood out: a powerful speech by Kymirah, a remarkable young woman who courageously shared her journey of overcoming homelessness during her high school years. With the support of VYH programming, Kymirah transformed her life and is now a resource navigator committed to helping other young people find the assistance they need.

“From the start, Valley Youth House welcomed me with open arms,” Kymirah reflected, her voice filled with emotion. “They gave me more than just resources—they gave me a community.”

Kymirah’s journey is one of resilience. Today, she stands before us as a first-time parent, a public speaker, and an advocate for youth experiencing homelessness. “The lessons I learned at Valley Youth House stay with me—a testament to the power of community, compassion, and resilience,” she declared. Her story embodies the mission of Valley Youth House: to empower youth to navigate their challenges and emerge stronger.

The evening also honored Daniel J. Hilferty, CEO of Comcast Spectacor, as the event’s Distinguished Honoree. His dedication to supporting various causes in Philadelphia, including Valley Youth House, underscores the impact that committed individuals can have on the lives of vulnerable youth. Co-Chairs Gregory E. Deavens and Joseph G. Cacchione, MD were recognized for their leadership and commitment to the event’s success.

“We’re thrilled to be honoring Dan Hilferty for his support of so many great causes in Philadelphia, including Valley Youth House,” said Thomas Harrington, President & Executive Director of Valley Youth House. “Support from people like Dan allows us to serve hundreds of vulnerable youth and young adults in our city every day, including those experiencing homelessness. On their behalf, we thank him and the other sponsors of our event for their care, concern, and generosity.”

Following the reception, guests enjoyed a captivating concert by Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra at the Wells Fargo Center, rounding off an inspiring evening filled with hope and community spirit.

Setting the Stage is not just a fundraising event; it’s a celebration of the transformative impact that supporters have on the lives of vulnerable individuals in the Greater Philadelphia region. All proceeds from the evening will directly benefit the life-changing programs and services that Valley Youth House provides to youth and families across Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties.

As we reflect on the success of this year’s Setting the Stage Southeast, we are reminded of the strength and resilience of young individuals like Kymirah. Together, we can continue to create a supportive community where every young person has the opportunity to thrive. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this important cause—your support makes a difference!
