Spotlight: Chaunice

Chaunice Holley’s life is a testament to the power of resilience and determination. Growing up in the heart of the Lehigh Valley, Chaunice faced challenges early in her life – but possessed an exceptional resilience.

Chaunice grew up in a single-parent household in the midst of addiction. It was a tense environment, marked by uncertainty and instability. Domestic violence became a chilling routine, casting a shadow over her childhood.

Chaunice’s life took another turn when, as a young girl, she found herself ensnared in the clutches of human trafficking. She experienced homelessness from the age of nine until she reached adulthood at eighteen.

Yet, amidst this instability, a glimmer of hope emerged. Chaunice crossed paths with Valley Youth House, an organization that would permanently alter the trajectory of her life. It was here, at places like Camp Fowler, that she found a community of support and mentorship. Valley Youth House’s Supervised Independent Living program also provided her with the guidance and life-skills she needed to excel.

Driven by an unyielding determination to overcome her circumstances, Chaunice defied the odds. She pursued education with a fierce passion, earning an Associate Degree in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing. Her academic success was just the beginning, as she now has her sights set on a Doctorate of Nursing Practice.

Chaunice proudly served and is a retired United States Air Force Wounded Warrior, a testament to her unshakeable spirit. She continued to serve her country, not just in uniform, but also as a dedicated educator. Currently, she holds the position of Chief Nursing Instructor for the Licensed Vocational Nursing program at Lincoln Technical Institute, inspiring future healthcare professionals. In addition to these accomplishments, Chaunice also holds the title of Mrs. Pennsylvania 2023 and was a semi-finalist in the national Mrs. America 2023 competition.

Chaunice’s most treasured achievement is her family. She has been married to her husband, Barry, a fellow veteran of the United States Air Force, for sixteen years. Their love blossomed into a beautiful family, and their ten-year-old daughter, Madison Brielle, became the embodiment of their dreams.

“This whirlwind life has led me to return to my hometown to continue my work with the youth and agencies that helped me overcome so many obstacles as a child. I aim to advocate and support Valley Youth House, Turning Point, The Boys & Girls Club, and of course continue to work with BCFS Health and Human Services,” – Chaunice Holley, BSN, RN – Mrs. Pennsylvania America
